Step 9: Getting financial advice

In Module 9 we look at providers of financial advice and effective negotiation :

. How the financial advice network is structured, and how to: identify conflicts of interest; estimate fees; identify hidden fees; minimise switching costs; communicate effectively with your adviser; and where to find fee for service financial advisers

. We explore the principles of effective negotiation, goals of negotiation, BATNAs (best alternative to a negotiated agreement), willingness to pay (WTP), willingness to sell (WTS), avoiding emotional responses, opening offers, when to make the first offer, influence tactics, recommended further reading.

In Step 9, you ask “Do I have the right financial advice for my situation?” and decide what to do in the event of a disjuncture.
